About Us
Stationed in Calgary Alberta, our 5100 sq ft factory is home to our passionate team and candles alike. We believe that our locally-made candles deserve an environment that mirrors the warm and welcoming spaces they’re burned in.
Milk Jar is a company committed to providing employment opportunities for the disability community and we do this in two ways: by focusing on diverse and inclusive hiring practices within our company where 1/3 of the staff on our team have a disability, and by donating $1 - $2 from the sale of every product to support the needs of companies and employees to be inclusive spaces and successful employees.
Our goal is to change outdated hiring practices in business, remove false stereotypes of disabled workers, and create more meaningful and purposeful companies.
Every purchase at Milk Jar has a cascading impact on your community, and with your support, we can achieve our goals to make companies more diverse and inclusive spaces.

TIPS FOR OPTIMAL BURNING OF YOUR WOOD WICK CANDLE:
Make sure your wick is trimmed to between 2mm – 3mm before each light. If the wick is too long, the wax will not pull up the wick and could extinguish, creating ashy ends. The melted wax is the fuel to the flame! Alternatively, a wick too large could also let off soot and be too big. Be sure to gently snap off the ash or burnt wood along the top edge of the wick with your fingers and dispose, then light as usual. Nail clippers also work great to get your wick to the optimal height.
Trimming your wood wick regularly will extend the life of your candle. A large flame uses up more fuel (liquid wax).
When first burning your candle, keep it lit for at least 1 to 1.5 hours and allow the burn pool to reach the edge of the glass or nearly. Failure to allow the burn pool to nearly reach the glass may cause it to tunnel from the burn pool ‘memory’.
Make sure your candle is at room temperature before lighting. Lighting a cold candle can cause tunneling (hard wax left around the edge of the glass).
During the first light, you may need to hold your lighter or match to your wick for several seconds until the combustion process of the candle is stabilized and the fuel from the wax keeps the flame alight.
Do not pour wax out to improve the height of your flame or swirl it around the edge if your melt pool has not reached the glass; this will end up tunneling your candle, causing your wick to drown.
If your candle has tunneled, you can fix it by scooping out the wax that is stuck to the glass with a spoon. Scoop enough out to the level of the melt pool or below to prevent further drowning of the wick.
Try not to let any debris from the wick (or anything else) fall into the candle.
If soot has deposited onto the container, take a dry paper towel and wipe it off to have your candle presentable again and table ready.
If you have any further concerns about your candle after reading and following our tips, please email Rae at Milk Jar with photos of your issue and we will resolve it so you can have a great experience with your Milk Jar: rae@milkjar.ca
DIFFUSER TIPS:
Our diffusers last usually about 3+ months. Here are some tips to get the most out of your Milk Jar diffuser:
Open bottle and insert 5 sticks. Flip sticks after one hour.
For a stronger aroma, flip sticks once a week or insert more sticks.
Replace sticks after 2 months.
Not for ingestion or topical use.
Do not pour oil into electrical diffuser.
TERMS OF USE & SAFETY:
Candles can be a serious fire hazard if not used properly. The following tips are to help minimize your risk when burning candles in your home.
Burn candles away from things that can catch fire (like bedding, curtains, decorations and clothing)
Keep burning candles out of reach of children or pets
Follow the burning instructions on the caution sticker on your candle
Keep wood wick trimmed before each use, to 1/4 of an inch. Look for your wick ‘mushrooming’ and always trim these black bubbles.
Burn candles in a well-ventilated area
Discontinue burning your candle when 1/2 an inch of wax remains and/or the wick detaches and moves off center. Wick clips are set to a specific safety height to keep the flame a ½ inch from the bottom of the glass. It is completely normal to have wax left over in the bottom of your candle. The wick can move off center if it was exposed to very cold temperature, such as being shipped in winter. If the candle shrunk in transit, the wick will no longer be attached to the glass. Be very mindful if your candle is loose, to monitor when there is an inch of wax left so that the wick does not slide to the side of the glass. If the flame touches the side of the glass, it can cause it to crack and break.
